Illustrator: Centering objects

In Photoshop, to center an object in your worspace, you simply use the ‘Align vertical centers’ or ‘Align horizontal centers’ buttons (outline below for comparison). It’s more or less the same process in Illustrator:

Centering objects in Illustrator

  1. Select the object.
  2. Select the align icon at the top of the screen to the right of the opacity and ‘Recolor Artwork’ options.
  3. From the drop down menu select ‘Align to Art Board’.
  4. Use the new options to the right for the desired effect.

The alternative is the define the exact x and y coordinates relative to the dimensions of the workspace to center object. The above method helps you side step the math.

Everything’s obvious in hindsight, eh?
